MESSAGE TO NIGERIANS

AFTER THE SUPREME COURT JUDGMENT: ADVOCACY FOR DEMOCRACY CRUCIAL

Christian Social Movement of Nigeria (CSMN) wishes to join generality of Nigerians in expressing grave concern on the assault on Democracy in Nigeria. The judgment of the Supreme Court validating the 2019 Presidential Election has not been helpful. In his response to the judgment, Atiku Abubakar said, “in a democracy, you need a strong Judiciary, a free press and an impartial electoral umpire. Nigeria has none of those three elements as at today.”

Christian Social Movement of Nigeria and National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) have consistently maintained that the problem of Nigeria is the conflict between Democracy and Sharia ideology. It is evident that Sharia is the ideology presently employed to run Nigeria, not Democracy. The 2019 Election is proof of Sharia not Democracy.

Therefore, it is in the best interest of Nigerians, particularly non-Islamists, to support the advocacy of CSMN to promote Democracy in order to guarantee freedom of choice, freedom of expression and freedom of worship. Sharia ideology does not provide room for freedom of worship.

CSMN is the socio-political arm of the Church established by the five Blocs of the Church in 2001 and open to all Nigerians in particular adherents of Democracy. Unfortunately, during the 2019 Elections, CSMN was hindered from effectively fulfilling its obligations to Nigerians due to a lack of understanding from Christians as well as the unfortunate activities of Islamist collaborators in the leadership of the Church. But for the activities of the Islamist collaborators in the Church, the 2019 Elections would not have turned out the way it did. A publication titled FACTORS HINDERING CHRISTIAN POLITICAL CONSENSUS FOR 2019 ELECTIONS on this is available at http://csmnigeria.org/blog/404-factors-hindering-christian-consensus-for-2019

Under the present circumstances, Nigerians must be vigilant, in prayers as well as in advocacy to ensure that our country does not slide into a state of one-party and one-religion. Once Democracy is successfully emasculated, “freedom” as we currently know it, would be the first casualty. Therefore, every Nigerian should endeavor to support CSMN so that it can achieve success in its advocacy for Democracy. There is a lot of work to be done if we are to defend our liberty and promote a just Nigeria.

Every Christian is requested to make monthly contributions, according to each individual’s ability, to CSMN. If the Christian Movement is not funded, it would be ineffective. We are all involved and, we all shall be affected.  Christians especially, must stand up on what it believes - Democracy.
