In September 2020, the National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) issued a press release drawing the attention of the country to the futility of the review of the controversial 1999 Constitution (as amended). NCEF pointed out that previous exercises have yielded no positive result for Nigeria. In 2020, the National Assembly undertook the 5th alteration to the constitution.
In 2025, another merry-go-round is underway. It is all motions and no movement. Military Decree 24 of 1999 that transmuted by military fiat into 1999 Constitution requires replacement by a legitimate constitution drawn by the ethnic nationalities of Nigeria. The country needs a new constitution.
